New York Textile Month 2024 - Crossroads: Textile Intersections

Designer Jorie Johnson
Our trip to celebrate New York Textile Month took us to Brooklyn to see the exhibition, Crossroads: Textile Intersections. Held at the atelier of designer Mary Jaeger, this exhibition features four internationally recognized textile artists:  Ms.Jaeger (New York), Ana Lisa Hedstrom (San Francisco), Jorie Johnson (Kyoto, Japan) and Nino Kipshidze (Tbilsi, Republic of Georgia).

Crossroads: Textile Intersections presents intricate hands-on textile work that examines age-old techniques reinterpreted in a modern format by artists who manipulate fiber. These phenomenal artists first met at the first International Shibori Network Symposium in 1993 in Arimatsu, Japan and continue to collaborate by exhibiting their work here and abroad.

Each designer's textiles are extraordinarily beautiful and feature a dazzling array of colors, patterns and materials.  We were thrilled to meet each designer and learn about their artistic practices and future plans.
