Our Oysters Real and Imagined party on September 27 was a tasty celebration of the changing of the seasons! Guests enjoyed fresh oysters on the half shell and cocktails in our courtyard garden where the plants and trees are beginning to show their fall colors. Inside, the exhibition, Feast - A Still Life, provided culinary delights for all to enjoy.
The fresh Salty Dog oysters were the best we ever tasted and were provided by our friends at Shellworks in Southampton. This family business operates a sustainable and restorative sea farm on Little Peconic Bay. The whole family is involved: Barley and Ruthie Dunn and their sons, Hewie and Burke, continue the centuries-old tradition of the East End of baymen and women who bring fresh shellfish to the community.
Barley and Ruthie were Peace Corps volunteers in the Solomon Islands and worked there on a blacklip pearl oyster farm. In addition to now running Shellworks, Barley runs the East Hampton Town's Shellfish Hatchery and helped to organize South Fork Sea Farmers to promote oyster farming and marine education.
We are so proud of Barley and Ruthie for their dedication to Shellworks and their love of the East End community. Visit Shellworks on Instagram and Facebook, @shellworksny and stop by their farm stand on Glenview Drive in Southampton.
A special thank you to our friends and neighbors at Sundaes on Main for the delicious candy they provided for the party - everyone enjoyed the sweets!
