Birabiro

Lydia Gobena, founder of Birabiro

Birabiro was born from the simple idea that jewelry should not merely be worn but should be enjoyed and express the personality of the wearer. Most of Lydia’s pieces are handmade in her studio in East Quogue, where she creates unique, perfectly imperfect designs. In addition to making jewelry out of traditional materials, Lydia also enjoys working with non-traditional materials to create structural, bold and distinctive jewelry pieces. Lydia draws inspiration from a variety of sources, including nature, her travels and her birthplace — Ethiopia. Many of her product names are derived from Ethiopian names and places. Her work has been exhibited at Milan Jewelry Week and in various galleries.
