Patricia Feiwel
Patricia Feiwel has been a successful textile designer for over 35 years. Her work has been featured in leading publications, such as Vogue, Bazaar, The New York Times, and The New Yorker. Read about Ms. Feiwel in the Real Estate Showcase here.
In the retail market, she has created custom lines for key stores such as Barney’s, Bendel’s, Bloomingdales, Walmart, and Saks Fifth Avenue. As a Director of Design for famous wholesale manufacturers, she has created fabric designs, decorative bedding, sheets, towels, throws and blankets for leading American companies such as Fieldcrest-Cannon, Sheridan USA, and P.Kaufmann. Internationally, she has created textile designs for the foremost mills in China, India, Portugal, and Brazil. Patricia has also developed textiles for prominent private labels, such as: Judith Leiber, Mary McFadden, Knoll International and Thomasville Furniture.
On a personal level, Ms. Feiwel has always been an entrepreneur with her own label, Patricia Feiwel Handwoven. The company specializes in one-of-a-kind items. Her Collections have included hand-woven scarves, shawls, clothing, and upholstery as well as ornamental metal necklaces and unique multi-sourced and collaged silk scarfs This work has sold in more than 50 specialty stores throughout the US & Europe—including local favorites Nancy & Co. and In Home. At Holiday time, Patricia often participates in craft fairs.
Over the last 15 years, Patricia’s work has included fine art projects. This comes from growing up in a family that collected sculpture and painting. In 2012, Patricia won the coveted First Place Award in Mixed Medium Art from Guild Hall. Other prizes include the Design Achievement Award from Cotton, Inc., the renowned trade association. Her “found objects” and “fabric collages” have been shown in galleries and many Hamptons invitational shows.
During this time, her work expanded to include framed “fabric collages” and special occasion free standing containers that have biographic significance. For example, she made a “40th Birthday Box” for Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling (that was commissioned by her publisher). Other well-known clients have included: Oprah Winfrey, Gilda Radner, Sonia Manzano (Maria on Sesame Street), Marta Kaufman (the creator of Friends) and Celia Costas (producer of 40 features, including Angel’s in America) For more than a dozen years Patricia has donated a box annually to the East End Hospice’s Box Art Auction.
Patricia began her career after graduating with a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University, Department of Painting and Sculpture. Her concentration was hand weaving. For many years, she had a private studio in The Cable Building in SoHo. She is a native New Yorker who has maintained a home in East Hampton for the last 30 years.
