One-day, round trip excursion to Brooklyn

$135 from New York City, Tickets
New York may not run on textiles but it is surely clothed, blanketed, carpeted and wrapped in fibers in a dizzying array of materials and applications. Clothing racks wheel through the streets, showrooms buzz with the best in design and factories make what we wear and what we use in everyday life. New York IS the heart and soul of the world of textiles and we invite you to join us on September 21 as we explore the fabric of the city for NY Textile Month. Our one-day, round trip excursion will take us to Brooklyn, home to designers and showrooms that are at the vanguard of innovation, sustainability and style.
Fashion designer Mary Jaeger will welcome us to an exclusive event at her atelier for her latest exhibition, TANGLED: ROOTS GROW, featuring wearable and interior accessories inspired by her visit along the Silk Road in Uzbekistan earlier this year. Ms. Jaeger says of her exhibition, "It is here I begin my exploratory melding of the intersections between hand-crafted textile design techniques, namely shibori (shaped-resist dyeing), suzani (embroidery) and ikat (threads dyed with patterns prior to weaving)."
Fadó Fadó II rug designed and handcrafted by Rhyme Studio in a Manhattan residence.
Our itinerary will also include a visit to Rhyme Studio, a multifaceted design studio and manufacturer that specializes in contemporary Irish design and art with a focus on sustainability. Rhyme is single-handedly reviving the collapsed Irish woolen industry around the world recognizing it as a miracle eco-fiber with naturally antimicrobial, biodegradable, and water resistant properties, Owner Claire McGovern believes Irish wool is a sustainable, luxury, and heirloom material sourced from small, organic sheep farms in Ireland.
