WACH Travels: Asheville - The Land of Craft, Culture, and Creativity
We are pleased to share the news of our latest travel adventure: Asheville – The Land of Craft, Culture and Creativity. Join us October 18 – 22, 2024 to discover this cultural jewel steeped in art, history and natural beauty. From folk art to fine art, we will explore this scenic city of unbridled creativity that is sure to expand your passion for art and craft. Our hotel offers deluxe accommodations in the heart of Asheville, just a short walk from many wonderful, art-filled spaces.
Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Asheville is the epicenter of craft in America and home to master artisans and up-and-coming craftspeople working in a myriad of disciplines. Once primarily focused on functional use, traditional craft experienced a revival in the late 1800s and early 1900s as a response to the mass-produced items of the Industrial Revolution. We will learn more about Asheville’s craft history with a tour of the Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center just a short walk from our hotel. Other tour highlights will be a visit to the Asheville Art Museum and the Penland School of Craft where we visit several home studios and experience the joy of making as we see fine craft artisans in process. We will explore the magnificent Biltmore Estate and admire the exclusive Dale Chihuly exhibition, curated specifically for this grand 20th-century mansion. Throughout our tour, we will savor the flavors of Asheville at restaurants where regional inspirations are artfully reimagined into contemporary and delectable cuisines.
Our exceptional tour guide, Sherry Masters, is a passionate craft aficionado with extensive expertise in Asheville's art and craft scene. She will enrich our understanding of the area and provide us with exclusive insights into every aspect of our visit.
Please note there is limited space on this personalized, special interest study tour. We already have considerable interest from friends of WACH, so we encourage you to ask any questions now. Email us at info@wachamptonsny.org for more information and to receive the reservation form and itinerary.
